My Favorite Walton Goggins Roles of All Time
Vice Principals
This is my number one. Vice Principals was one of those shows that you wish would continue on, but it ran for two perfect seasons and was tied up really nicely with a bow for audiences.
The entire time I watched this show, I loved Walton Goggins’ character - maybe even more than Danny McBride’s. Goggins plays Lee Russell, a vice principal alongside Neal Gamby (McBride). The two of them feud for two seasons over who will take over the open principal position.
This show is outrageous and hilarious. I wish Danny and Walton would do more one-on-one comedies like this. They're like Will Ferrell meets John C. Reilly, or Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
Fallout
Fallout wouldn't have been half as good as it was without The Ghoul’s storyline. I couldn't picture a better person to play The Ghoul than Walton Goggins. He's mean, he's rough, he's badass, and he's funny at times.
Goggins can pull off a character that's supposed to be an ugly asshole, but still make you feel for him and laugh at his dialogue.
“This ass jerky ain't gonna cut itself.”
Righteous Gemstones
Uncle Baby Billy. Not only is the name ridiculous, but so is Walton’s excellently executed portrayal of a ridiculous con-artist evangelist. I watched the Righteous Gemstones just waiting for the next Uncle Baby Billy scene, just to see what he was going to say or do next. It's nonstop.
He does play alongside Danny McBride in this one as well. They just have fewer interactions than they did in Vice Principals. Both Goggins and McBride are always priceless together.
Justified
Justified was the first show that I've ever watched with Walton Goggins in it. Even though it's not my favorite role, it might be his most nuanced.
He plays Boyd Crowder, who is a dumb country roughneck criminal alongside his father. He causes all kinds of trouble for U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. Givens is played by Timothy Olyphant, who is another one of my favorite actors.
I loved this show and I loved to hate Walton Goggins’ villain. I did truly dislike the selfish and conniving Boyd Crowder, but he's also very charismatic and entertaining.
American Ultra
In 2015, Walton played alongside Jesse Rosenberg and Kristen Stewart in this cinematic masterpiece (just my opinion). He played ‘Laugher’ - a government enhanced soldier that had lost his mind. He'd laugh and smile the entire time he was in combat, even when he was injured.
This role is one that really shows Walton Goggins’ acting prowess. Just like he made The Ghoul likable in so many ways, he makes you feel heartache for Laugher near the end of the film.
Predators
This is my favorite modern Predator film, second only to Prey. I enjoyed the diversity in the characters, and there was such variance because the world’s most dangerous humans had been dropped into a hunting ground as a challenge for the Predators.
Walton Goggins played Walter Stans. Murderer of 24 people and a convict on the FBI’s most wanted list. Just as he was in Justified, he's extremely unlikeable. Except this time he’s not as dumb.
Only Goggins could take the extremely dangerous wanted murderer Stans and make you feel somewhat connected to him as a person.
Walton Goggins Fun Fact
He starred in the film Joyride as a cop and was uncredited.
